COIN AND MEDAL SOCIETY
Founded 10th January 1968 by Brian Edge. 
 
OBJECT OF THE SOCIETY

“To provide for its members a means of communication in order that through mutual helpfulness they will improve their overall knowledge of Numismatics.”

 

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month excluding the months of January and July.

The venue is the Wistaston Memorial Hall, Church Lane, Wistaston, Crewe commencing at 7.30pm.

New Members or Casual Visitors (who may be interested in a particular lecture) are
ALWAYS WELCOME.

Robert C. Pearson (Chairman) ,  Brian Butterworth,   Richard Hope,
George Martin (Treasurer),  Brian Edge (Honorary Secretary).
 
Meetings are informal affairs. Membership is 28 and an average of 17 members attend.
The society holds bi-annually what must be one of the best Club Coin Fairs around.

These are extremely popular with members and dealers alike some of whom travel from south of London to attend.

 
Subscriptions (Which are due in February)
 
Adult £5.00.  Combined Husband and Wife £5.50. Junior (under 16)  Free.
Light Refreshment are provided free at meetings.
 
The competition for the Inter-Counties Numismatic Quiz Trophy has been running for over 30 years.
Those currently competing for this trophy are:
South Manchester Numismatic Society,
Preston Numismatic Society, The Crewe and District Coin and Medal Society
the Lancashire and Cheshire Numismatic Society and
the Ormskirk Numismatic Society
 

All the competitions are held at Crewe by general agreement.  Crewe being geographically convenient for most competitors.

Any other Society wishing to take part in this annual event will be welcomed.

SYLLABUS 2008   

January 2008 There is no meeting this month.  
12 February Roy Berryman Edwards DSO. Hero of World War Two,
Roy is commemorated on the memorial located above the
front door of this hall. Roy’s courage is told by Peter Ollerhead
of Copnal Books, Meredith St. Crewe, local author and
historian. A fascinating Story.
Subscriptions are due tonight.

11 March Auction of Coins, Medals and Numismatic Books etc.
7pm for members with lots to enter in the sale otherwise
7.30pm prompt. All lots must be open for inspection and will
be sold “as seen.” Will you please make a special effort to
bring along lots to enter in the sale and also do not forget to
bring some money to enable you to take part in the bidding!
Subscriptions are now overdue and should be paid to the
Treasurer tonight as only fully paid up members can take part
in the auction. Members of other Societies affiliated to BANS
may attend without restriction.

8 April Great War Numismatics All aspects of WWI numismatics
(coins, medals, tokens and badges etc) presented by Bill Myers
of Millom, Cumbria.

13 May The Spring Coin Fair - Members of all Numismatic
Societies, the Crewe and Nantwich Metal Detecting Society,
and guests of club members are invited to take up a free stall.
Free refreshments provided . An event not to be missed – tens
of thousands of coins, medals, tokens and postcards etc. for
sale.

An illustrated talk by popular speaker Peter Crummett .
Note: Nominations for the 2009 Council are to be handed to
the Secretary tonight
 
9 December Members’ Short Talks - This competition is for the best
fifteen minute talk on a subject of numismatic interest.
A trophy will be presented to the winner to hold for 12
months. A.G.M.
