The British Association of Numismatic Societies, the national organisation founded in 1953 which provisionally represents a total of 36 numismatic societies throughout the United Kingdom, recently held its AGM in London.

At the meeting the organisation’s existing officers, led by Dr Kevin Clancy, Librarian and Curator of the Royal Mint Museum, were re-elected unopposed.

The 2013 Congress, the 60th in an unbroken sequence dating back to the formation of BANS, is being co-hosted by the British and Royal Numismatic Societies and will be held from April 5th-7th at the De Vere Hotel, Greenwich, on the edge of Greenwich Park and close to the Cutty Sark and other local tourist attractions. The all-inclusive cost is from £225 and includes accomodation, meals and the Congress Dinner. A full programme of excellent speakers has already been arranged, including Marion Archibald, Peter Clayton, Graham Dyer and Stewart Lyon. The recent BANS Autumn Weekend, staged at Vanbrugh College within the University of York campus, was the last in the series to be organised by Megan Gooch. Some 30 attendees listened to a programme which included lectures by James Booth. Matt Dent, Leigh Gardner, Emily Fildes and Lee Toone. For 2013 the Autumn Weekend moves to Dalton Ellis Hall within the University of Manchester complex and the dates are September 6th-8th. Further details will be posted on the BANS website, www.coinclubs.org.co.uk, in due course.
